Music and Motion
In these classes, Music is used to assist with participation through intrinsic motivation.
Music can assist clients with decreasing stiffness and anxiety, balance, physical strength, and flexibility, through physical and breathing exercises.
During the class these issues will be addressed by utilizing range of motion, focusing on upper and lower body extremities.
Additional benefits may include improved body image perception and increased immune system activity.
Music and Memory
This is a group activity that assists clients with cognition, focusing, attention to task and social interaction.
The class is interactive in nature as the therapist may sing songs or plays tunes, and the residents are asked to join in or lead, and may be asked specific questions relating to time, state, and feelings regarding different stages of life, and important memories that may be triggered by the music being played.
This group increases personal interaction, initiates conversations, reduces social anxiety, allows residents to get to know one another, develops and improves social skills and increases positive social interaction between peers, self-confidence and self-esteem.
